Life at Berton House
Where I’m Working
Welcome to my new home! I am delighted to be the Writer in Residence at Berton House in Dawson City, Yukon from October through December of 2009. Before his death in 2004, the well-known Canadian author Pierre Berton donated $50,000 to create a writing retreat in his boyhood home. With the help of his enduring gift, the Writers’ Trust of Canada and the people of Dawson invite professional writers to live and work in this quiet retreat in the north. Come in the front door, and take a look around. Peek out the windows and you’ll see Robert Service’s tiny log cabin across the street and Jack London’s cabin just down Eighth Avenue. You can see why I’ll want to stay in Dawson when December rolls around. Thank you, Pierre!
